THE JOURNEY GOES ON A VOCATION!

(Photo by: Dreamstime.com) For my precious followers, ı am here to announce a piece of sad information...   as you can understand from the title,  this post is, not an ending but a break, post. In this post, i want to mention the experiences i had in the Current Issues in Teaching course. 1) One of the strengths of this course is obviously the teacher Mustafa Polat's great effort. Without his effort, we wouldn't have had the experience of this lesson from the beginning.  other than that, i want to mention the projects we did. All of them taught me something new.  The  only downside I can think of is removing the written exam and turning it into a project. 2) What i found easy in this course was the blog writing part. I can say that when it comes to writing a blog after finishing the main homework makes me feel as soft as a bird. It is easy and fun. Having the feeling of showing your work to others is exciting. Mentioning the difficult parts of this course, i can...

Creating AI-Integrated Lesson Materials

Image
(Photo by: Vecteezy) Hello everyone. As you can see above, I'm meeting with you to write another new material. Thanks to Our teacher Mustafa Polat and my group ( Muhammed Emir Özbek , Emir Batu Özdemir, and Hüseyin Obut) , i had a chance to use Artificial intelligence to help me with materials.  My group members and I created a material that we wanted students to write about their favourite places they visited. While asking them to do that, we also wanted them to scan the QR code and send their writings to Chat-GPT for their grammar (conjunctions) and writing evaluation. After the evaluation. we asked students to create a revised version of their writings. We wanted them to revise it to a new form with the help of Chat-GPT evaluations and recommendations.  After they had written their revised papers, we asked them some questions that would help them share their experiences with the writings and the help of Chat-GPT. I believe this material can be really helpful in intr...

Creating an AR/VR integrated teaching material

Image
(Photo by:  Italian Dual Citizenship) Hello again everyone! this blog post will be about Augmented Reality (AR). Thanks to my teacher Mustafa Polat, we ( Muhammed Emir Özbek , Emir Batu Özdemir, and Hüseyin Obut ) had this great opportunity to use this technology in our ELT lesson.  Exploring AR and VR in language learning opens up exciting possibilities.  While AR is ideal for vocabulary building and basic skills, VR shines in facilitating deeper conversational practice. However, these technologies come with challenges—from cost and technical difficulties to concerns about distraction and isolation. When used thoughtfully, their strengths can significantly enhance the learning experience.  To create a dynamic and engaging experience, We incorporated videos, 3D models, and 360-degree content, all accessible through QR codes on a worksheet. This approach allowed students to explore the city’s highlights virtually and interactively. To deepen their learning, We develo...

Creating an instructional video for the flipped instruction

Image
(Photo of our flipped learning video) Hello again everyone! the reason I am writing this is because our teacher Mustafa Polat asked us to create something beneficial and pre-usable before the real-life lesson. In this blog post, I’ll discuss the flipped classroom approach and the video project my group members( Muhammed Emir Özbek , Emir Batu Özdemir, and Hüseyin Obut ) and I worked on. The flipped classroom is a method where you learn new content at home, usually through videos or reading, and use class time for activities and discussions. This approach has some great advantages for language classes. It gives you the flexibility to learn at your own pace and makes class time more interactive and focused on practice. But there are also some challenges, like needing good internet access and making sure everyone actually does the prep work before class. When it comes to its advantages, the first thing that comes to my mind is that it's a time saviour.  Teachers can use all class ho...

Lesson plan Using Corpus

Image
In our recent ELT project, as a group of 4, we designed a lesson plan using the ASSURE model, drawing from Unit 4: Nature and Animals in CorpusMate. Guided by our instructor, Mustafa Polat, we aimed to create an engaging and practical teaching resource. I, Muhammed Emir özbek , Hüseyin Obut , and Emir Batu Özdemir  put great effort into this project. The task involved developing a structured plan to integrate multimedia resources with clear instructional strategies. Our material emphasized interactive activities, focusing on students' engagement with vocabulary-related words of nature and animals. Creating the material was a collaborative effort. We began by analyzing the needs of the learners, ensuring our activities aligned with the lesson objectives. Using CorpusMate's resources, we selected authentic texts and tasks to make the material relatable and meaningful. The ASSURE model helped us carefully sequence the steps: analyzing learners, stating objectives, selecting...

THE JOURNEY CONTINUES; Current Issues in Teaching

Image
Once again, hello!       I'm honoured to mention that i am back. As you can see in the Title, the journey continues with a new course called "Current Issues in Teaching" which covers the recent problems, teaching methods, and perspectives in ELT.      For those of you who get to know me from this post, my name is Emirhan Korkmaz. I'm 21 years old and i am currently studying ELT at Marmara University in Türkiye. Thanks to Mustafa Polat teacher and his "ICT and Material Design in ELT" course, i started this blog journey last year. He wanted us to make some technology-aligned teaching projects including the use of AI, making film reviews as groups, podcasts etc. Then he asked us to write about our experiences with these projects on our blogs.     The reason i decided to resurrect this blog from the ashes is nothing but the excitement of sharing my experiences of making teaching projects about Current Issues in Teaching.  Just as last...

Instructional Technologies and Material Design in English Language: End of The Term

Image
(Photo by: https://prajyotiniketan.edu.in ) In the spring semester of 2023-2024, we took a class named "Instructional Technologies and Material Design in English Language" given by Asst. Prof. Mustafa  Polat. In this course, we learned new ways of using technology for teaching and learning.  Before the class, i had little information on the issue of  technology integration in English language teaching. Of course, i knew some apps like Duolingo but i never thought that there are actually so many ways we can integrate technology with ELT.  I can say that this course opened my horizon in language learning and teaching. Thanks to Mustafa Polat's tasks, i experienced so many things. As an example: i  never had a blog before. Opening and designing a blog w...
