Lesson plan Using Corpus

In our recent ELT project, as a group of 4, we designed a lesson plan using the ASSURE model, drawing from Unit 4: Nature and Animals in CorpusMate. Guided by our instructor, Mustafa Polat, we aimed to create an engaging and practical teaching resource. I, Muhammed Emir özbek, Hüseyin Obut, and Emir Batu Özdemir put great effort into this project.

The task involved developing a structured plan to integrate multimedia resources with clear instructional strategies. Our material emphasized interactive activities, focusing on students' engagement with vocabulary-related words of nature and animals.

Creating the material was a collaborative effort. We began by analyzing the needs of the learners, ensuring our activities aligned with the lesson objectives. Using CorpusMate's resources, we selected authentic texts and tasks to make the material relatable and meaningful. The ASSURE model helped us carefully sequence the steps: analyzing learners, stating objectives, selecting strategies, utilizing media, requiring student participation, and evaluating outcomes.

One highlight was the worksheet support for students.  Trying to choose nature-related words and finding the appropriate photo for all 4 seasons of a year was not easy for us.

While the material is well-structured, problems might arise in a real classroom setting. Some students may struggle with technology, especially if they have limited prior experience. Classroom management could also be challenging during group activities, particularly with large class sizes. Moreover, adapting the content for mixed-proficiency groups might require additional scaffolding.

Overall, this task offered valuable insights into material design and classroom application. It reinforced the importance of adaptability and preparation when creating teaching resources.
